Any authorized adult can make service of process – often a peace officer, licensed process server, or any person specially appointed by the court, as long as they are not a party to the case.
In Alaska, the plaintiff or plaintiff’s attorney is responsible for ensuring service is carried out (either by themselves or by hiring a process server).
There is a 120-day time limit to serve the summons after filing the complaint; if service isn’t completed in that time, the plaintiff must show cause for the delay, or the case can be dismissed.
